Wall insulation grants in 2026

In 2026, funded wall insulation mainly comes from ECO4 (until 31 December 2026, for eligible households), Warm Homes: Local Grant schemes run by some English councils, Home Energy Scotland's Grant and Loan, Warm Homes Nest in Wales and the Affordable Warmth Scheme in Northern Ireland. Each has eligibility rules and usually requires a scheme-registered installer.

England

ECO4 is delivered through energy suppliers for eligible households (mainly benefit-linked or via council flexible eligibility) and has been extended to 31 December 2026, with no successor supplier obligation planned; individual suppliers may stop taking new applications before then. The Great British Insulation Scheme closed on 31 March 2026. Warm Homes: Local Grant is run by participating councils for low-income households. The Warm Homes Plan sets out further grants and low- or zero-interest loans being introduced in phases.

Scotland

Home Energy Scotland's Grant and Loan offers owner-occupiers up to £7,500 in grant for solid wall insulation (up to 75% of costs) plus an optional interest-free loan, with a rural uplift. For solid wall insulation, the installer must be TrustMark registered under that scheme.

Wales

Warm Homes Nest provides free home energy improvements, including insulation where suitable, for eligible low-income households, following a whole-house assessment.

Northern Ireland

The Affordable Warmth Scheme helps low-income households (gross income under £23,000) in owner-occupied and some private rented homes. Solid wall insulation is only available for detached homes, comes after other measures in its priority order, and is capped at £10,000, subject to funding.

How funded work fits with a private quote

Funded schemes have their own assessments and use installers registered with them — commonly through TrustMark and PAS 2030/2035. If you might qualify, apply through the scheme and it will direct you to its installers. Our quotes are for privately funded work, for anyone who doesn't qualify or wants a different specification.

Questions

Is EWI free under ECO4?

For some eligible households, part or all of the cost can be covered. It depends on eligibility, the property and the supplier's funding.

Will grants continue after 2026?

ECO4 ends on 31 December 2026; the Warm Homes Plan is the government's route for future support.

Can I get a loan?

Home Energy Scotland offers interest-free loans; in England, low- and zero-interest loans are being rolled out in phases under the Warm Homes Plan.
