How we work
What makes an EWI job last
Most failures come from details, not the insulation. We plan those details at survey and write them into the quote.
Insulation first
We look at whether the wall should be insulated before talking about colour — especially when you're re-rendering anyway.
Details that keep walls dry
Starter track above the damp-proof course, extended cills, sealed penetrations and roofline details planned at survey.
The right board for the wall
EPS, mineral wool, wood fibre or phenolic, chosen for the wall type, building height and planning setting.
Prices you can see
Guide prices online and a quote tool, then a fixed written price after the survey.

Learn more →How external wall insulation works
Six layers, one tested system
External wall insulation wraps the outside of the wall in insulation, so the masonry stays on the warm side. The boards are bonded and fixed, then covered with a reinforced base coat, primer and a decorative finish. Each layer comes from one manufacturer's tested system.
On a typical 225mm solid brick wall, around 90–110mm of board takes the U-value from roughly 2.1 to about 0.30 W/m²K — the benchmark Building Regulations in England and Wales use when a wall is renovated.

FAQ
Common questions
How much does external wall insulation cost in 2026?
Our guide price is £105–£170 per m² of wall depending on the insulation and finish, plus scaffolding. A typical three-bed semi with EPS and silicone render comes to about £10,200–£17,700 including scaffold. Installing insulation in a home is zero-rated for VAT until 31 March 2027, so that's the total. The survey fixes the price in writing.
Is there 0% VAT on external wall insulation?
Installing insulation for walls in residential accommodation is zero-rated for VAT in Great Britain until 31 March 2027 (and in Northern Ireland from 1 May 2023 to the same date), then 5% from 1 April 2027. Render-only work, repairs and commercial work are normally standard-rated.
Do I need planning permission?
Often not for a house in England or Wales if the finish looks similar to the existing walls, but you usually will in a conservation area, for flats and for commercial buildings. Scotland and Northern Ireland have their own rules. We check your address before quoting.
Can you insulate over pebble dash?
Usually, yes. We tap-test the dash for hollow areas, remove anything loose, and use extra mechanical fixings into the wall.
How long does it take?
A typical semi-detached house takes about 2–4 weeks for full external wall insulation, depending on weather and detailing. Render-only work is usually quicker.
Can I get a grant?
Possibly, depending on where you live and your circumstances: ECO4 until 31 December 2026, Warm Homes: Local Grant via some councils in England, Home Energy Scotland, Warm Homes Nest in Wales, or Affordable Warmth in Northern Ireland. Grant schemes use installers registered with them, so apply through the scheme. Our quotes are for privately funded work.
Is the price really fixed?
Yes, for the agreed specification. If something couldn't be seen at survey — such as damage behind old render — we explain it and agree any change in writing before doing extra work.
Do you cover my area?
We work across England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. Remote and island locations are covered by arrangement — send your postcode and we'll confirm.
