Re-rendering, repairs and upkeep
EWI repairs and maintenance
EWI repairs fix damage to external wall insulation systems — impact holes, cracked base coat, failed sealants, water getting in at cills or pipes, and pecked or split render — using compatible materials so the insulation behind stays dry.
- Impact damage cut back and repaired with mesh
- Cracks investigated for movement or failed fixings
- Sealants renewed at windows, pipes and penetrations
- Water ingress traced at cills, copings and eaves
- Bird and woodpecker damage repaired
- Colour-matched finish or elevation recoat

How is damaged EWI repaired?
The damaged area is cut back to sound render and board. Wet or crushed insulation is replaced, a new base coat with overlapping mesh is applied, then primer and a matching finish. The repair overlaps the existing mesh so it's reinforced like the original.

What causes EWI to fail?
Most problems start at details: cills that are too short or not sealed, unsealed pipe penetrations, missing drip beads, ground levels too close to the base track, or impact at low level. Where a defect is widespread, we report the likely cause before quoting.
Do you repair systems you didn't install?
Yes. We identify the system type where possible and use compatible materials. If your system is under a manufacturer's or installer's guarantee, check its terms before any third party works on it.

EWI repairs and maintenance: questions
Can damaged EWI be patched?
Yes, provided the board behind is dry and sound. Wet or crushed board is cut out and replaced.
Why is my EWI cracking?
Common causes are missing movement joints, poor mesh overlap, fixing problems or movement in the wall. We look for the cause rather than filling the crack.
Will the repair be visible?
Usually slightly, because the existing finish has weathered. A recoat of the elevation evens it out.
My EWI was installed under a grant — who repairs it?
First check the guarantee paperwork and contact the original installer or guarantee provider. If that route isn't available, we can quote.
