Local considerations in Wickford
As well as Wickford itself, we quote in Pitsea, Rayleigh and Basildon. Wickford is about 10 miles from Southend-on-Sea. The East of England has a mix of post-war estates, inter-war semis and older solid brick and flint cottages, with some system-built council homes on post-war estates.
Much of Essex sits in the lower wind-driven rain exposure bands, which keeps the choice of finishes wide — though hilltop, coastal and exposed gable walls can still need a tougher specification, so we check the actual site.
EPS is a common choice for two-storey houses, mainly on cost and weight, and we price it alongside mineral wool for homes in Wickford.

England: planning and regulations
For a house in Wickford, external insulation or render is often permitted development if it looks similar to the existing walls; conservation areas, flats, commercial buildings and listed buildings need permission or consent, so we check your address first.
Insulating or re-rendering more than half of a wall's area brings in Part L of the Building Regulations, so building control is notified and the wall is upgraded to about 0.30 W/m²K where practical.
When is EPS the right choice?
EPS suits most two-storey houses, bungalows and park homes where the wall is sound and there are no fire-height restrictions. It is a good fit where eaves are shallow, because grey EPS can hit the target with less thickness. On buildings with a storey 11 metres or more above ground, or where the guidance asks for non-combustible materials, mineral wool is used instead.

EPS insulation in Wickford: questions
White or grey EPS?
Grey graphite EPS insulates better per millimetre, so it is the pick where space is tight at the eaves or around windows. White EPS is slightly cheaper and works well where the extra thickness isn't a problem.
Is EPS insulation safe on a house?
EPS is used inside render systems that are fire-tested as a whole. On low-rise houses it is widely used. On taller buildings, or where guidance calls for non-combustible materials, mineral wool systems are specified instead.
How long does EPS last on a wall?
The board itself doesn't degrade when protected by the render system. Service life depends on the render, sealants and detailing, typically 25–30 years or more with maintenance.
