Before we quote in Kirkwall
We cover Kirkwall and the wider Orkney, Shetland and the Western Isles; island and remote addresses are surveyed by arrangement. The Highlands and Islands have many exposed stone and harled homes, timber-framed houses and scattered rural properties.
Parts of Orkney, Shetland and the Western Isles fall in the higher wind-driven rain exposure bands, especially coastal and upland sites, so render specification, movement joints and detailing at cills, verges and the base of the wall matter more than usual.
For houses in Kirkwall with shallow eaves, the insulated render thickness is planned with the roofline in mind.

Approvals in Scotland
In Scotland, permitted development for external wall changes is narrower, so in Kirkwall we check with the council's planning team where the appearance changes, and always for flats, tenements and conservation areas.
Scotland's building standards cover changes to external wall construction; we check whether your job in Kirkwall needs a warrant.
Can I choose two colours?
Yes. Many owners pick a main colour with a contrasting plinth, entrance surround or bay. Feature bands and recessed details can be formed in the insulation before rendering.

Insulated render in Kirkwall: questions
How long does insulated render last?
Typically 25–30 years or more with maintenance; the manufacturer's documentation sets the service life for the specific system.
Will my house look different?
Yes, if it was brick or pebble dash. If you want to keep a brick look, a brick-slip finish over the insulation is an option.
Does insulated render need painting?
Through-coloured silicone and acrylic renders don't need painting. Mineral renders are usually painted with a compatible masonry paint.
Do you cover Kirkwall?
Yes — we survey and quote insulated render in Kirkwall (KW15); island and remote addresses are surveyed by arrangement, with a fixed written price before any work starts.
