What we look for in Northampton
Surveys in Northampton also cover the surrounding NN1 district and towns such as Wellingborough and Daventry. Housing in the East Midlands includes Victorian terraces in the towns and cities, plenty of inter-war semis and post-war council estates, some of them system-built.
Much of Northamptonshire sits in the lower wind-driven rain exposure bands, which keeps the choice of finishes wide — though hilltop, coastal and exposed gable walls can still need a tougher specification, so we check the actual site.
Silicone suits most rendering jobs in Northampton, either on its own or over insulation.

Permissions in England
Planning in Northampton follows England's national rules: similar-looking finishes on houses are usually permitted, while flats, commercial premises, conservation areas and streets under an Article 4 direction need an application.
If the work covers more than half of a wall, or a quarter of the building's whole envelope, it counts as renovating a thermal element, with a target of about 0.30 W/m²K where feasible.
Is silicone render maintenance-free?
Not quite. It stays cleaner than most renders because water runs off and dries quickly, but north-facing or tree-shaded walls can still gather algae. A gentle biocide wash every few years keeps it looking new. Pressure washing is avoided because it can damage the surface.

Silicone render in Northampton: questions
Does silicone render crack?
The mesh-reinforced base coat and the render's flexibility make cracking much less likely than with sand and cement, but structural movement in the wall can still show through.
Can silicone render go over old render?
If the old render is sound and well bonded, often yes after cleaning and priming. Hollow or cracked areas are cut out and repaired first.
How long does silicone render take to dry?
It's touch-dry within hours but needs dry weather above about 5°C for the first day or two to cure properly.
