Before we quote in March
We cover March and nearby Wisbech, Peterborough and King's Lynn. March sits around 14 miles from Peterborough. The East of England has a mix of post-war estates, inter-war semis and older solid brick and flint cottages, with some system-built council homes on post-war estates.
Much of Cambridgeshire sits in the lower wind-driven rain exposure bands, which keeps the choice of finishes wide — though hilltop, coastal and exposed gable walls can still need a tougher specification, so we check the actual site.
For older stone and early brick properties in March, we look at a wood fibre and lime build-up first.

Approvals in England
For a house in March, external insulation or render is often permitted development if it looks similar to the existing walls; conservation areas, flats, commercial buildings and listed buildings need permission or consent, so we check your address first.
Building control applies once more than half of a wall is insulated or re-rendered, or more than a quarter of the whole building envelope, and your written quote says how that's handled.
What about listed buildings and conservation areas?
EWI on a listed building needs listed building consent and is often refused where the outside appearance matters. In conservation areas, rendering or cladding a house normally needs planning permission. Wood fibre and lime are more likely to be acceptable than foam and acrylic, but the council decides. We check before quoting.

Wood fibre EWI in March: questions
Is wood fibre insulation fireproof?
No — it's a timber product. It chars rather than flaming readily, but it is combustible, so it's used on low-rise buildings within a tested system and never where non-combustible materials are required.
Is wood fibre worth the extra cost?
On older solid walls the main benefit is moisture safety rather than raw U-value. If the wall needs to breathe, the cheaper option can cost more later.
Does wood fibre need a lime render?
It needs the render specified by the system manufacturer, which is usually lime or mineral based.
