Local considerations in Clacton-on-Sea
We cover Clacton-on-Sea and nearby Harwich, Colchester and Felixstowe. Clacton-on-Sea is about 26 miles from Southend-on-Sea. The East of England has a mix of post-war estates, inter-war semis and older solid brick and flint cottages, with some system-built council homes on post-war estates.
Much of Essex sits in the lower wind-driven rain exposure bands, which keeps the choice of finishes wide — though hilltop, coastal and exposed gable walls can still need a tougher specification, so we check the actual site.

Planning and building control in England
Before quoting in Clacton-on-Sea, we check whether the property is in a conservation area, under an Article 4 direction or listed, because that decides whether changing the outside needs planning permission.
If the work covers more than half of a wall, or a quarter of the building's whole envelope, it counts as renovating a thermal element, with a target of about 0.30 W/m²K where feasible.
When does pebble dash need removing?
Where it's widely hollow, cracked or letting water in, or where the wall underneath needs to be inspected or repaired. Removal is dusty and noisy and can damage the face of soft bricks, so it's not the default.

Cover pebble dash in Clacton-on-Sea: questions
Will the stones show through?
No. A levelling base coat with mesh fills over the stones before the finish goes on.
Can I paint pebble dash instead?
You can, but it doesn't fix hollow areas or cracks, and paint on dash often needs redoing every few years.
Does covering pebble dash need planning permission?
Changing the finish on a house usually doesn't in England and Wales outside conservation areas, but check if your house is in one or is listed.
