Kelso: walls, weather and approvals
We cover Kelso and nearby Galashiels, Hawick and Peebles. Kelso sits around 18 miles from Hawick. The Scottish Borders have stone-built towns and villages, rural cottages and some post-war estates.
Exposure to wind-driven rain varies across Scottish Borders: sheltered town streets fare better than walls on high ground or facing the prevailing weather, and the render, beads and cill details are chosen with that in mind.
Shaded and north-facing walls in Kelso often need render cleaning sooner than sunny elevations.

Scotland: planning and regulations
Most repair and maintenance work needs no planning application. We'll tell you if the scope grows to the point where the council needs to be involved.
Why not pressure wash render?
Thin-coat renders are only 1–2mm thick. High-pressure jetting can erode the texture, strip colour, force water behind beads and cracks, and damage the insulation system underneath. A soft wash uses chemistry rather than pressure to do the work.

Render cleaning in Kelso: questions
Can faded render be refreshed?
Yes — a compatible silicone paint restores colour without making the wall less breathable.
Is render cleaning safe for EWI?
Yes, using low pressure and products suitable for thin-coat render.
Will the green come back?
The biocide slows regrowth considerably, but shaded, damp walls can need retreating every few years.
